About My
Studio
Anastasia Nelson and I share a studio that we built ourselves in the hills near the Yolla Bolly mountain range in Northern Calilfonia.
Inspired by Love
Painting has always been my passion, but I have been further inspired and encouraged by events and people in my life. I strive to satisfy my own creative drive, as well as providing colour and images that bring joy and love into the world. I want the viewer to enjoy the experience and with our new Interactive, 3D, reverse perspective, painted sculptures I have found an exciting way to entertain viewers. Enjoy!
A Variety
of Creative Art Projects
You'll find a wide gamut of art projects on this website. After 50 years of painting, I have assembled quite a few diverse collections of work. Included are what I refer to as "The New Plein Air"; the "Electronica" series; the "Verkerke Nudes" set; Oaxacan Inspired paintings; the "Cat's Mind" series; the "Magritte" series; the Artist Book series; the "Enneagram Animals"; and others. One of the most important to me is the "Barnyard" series.
The "Barnyard Animals" is a series done in collaboration with my partner, Anastasia Nelson. When we moved our studio from the city to a remote rural area, we suddenly found ourselves surrounded by animals that were "dropped off" on our dead-end road. Everything from llamas and donkeys to sheep, cats, and dogs and more. To support these animals, we started the "Accidental Animal Rescue Center", and we paint their portraits to raise the money to feed and care for these mostly neglected and abused animals. Each portrait is done with love. We know these creatures well and enjoy painting them.
The Official
Bio /Statement
Phil Dynan is a contemporary artist working in painting, sculpture and performance art from Northern California and London. His passion is colour. His mission is to create unity and inspiration within his audience through visual accessibility. This is especially evident in his most recent work, 3D, viewer interactive sculptures, painted in reverse perspective.
Self-taught, his work reaches out to a wide audience. It touches on commonality and happiness through images that bring people together. At the same time, his work is deliberately “multi-layered” which allows the viewer to simply enjoy the colour and shapes, or to go deeper into a painting and discover other inventions of the mind. His multi-layered work is motivated by his belief that everything and everyone in the world is connected.
His latest works are the result of working with Shoreditch Artist Patrick Hughes. Along with his partner, Anastasia Nelson and woodworker Bill Yoskowitz, Dynan produces 3D, reverse perspective, painted sculptures that are viewer interactive. The sculptures are a mix of magic and math and viewers often sway, bob, and even dance in front of the work, which causes different art to appear and disappear in conjunction with whatever motion the viewer makes.
The Reverse Perspective sculptures are packed with artwork, galleries, colour, action, and characters so that they are fully and joyfully engaging.
